Losing Interest
Posted On 12/24/2010 18:24:42 by ohitsstef

I'm already confident that if anyone checks the blogs that mine will be greeted with intense dislike; however I have to get this off my chest.

Tetris used to be something I played to kill time - then I slowly moved into the more "competitive" aspect of it. My goal was to beat as many people as I could and eventually become the best - or so that was my "goal." My journey took me from Tetris DS to Blockles to Tetris Friends and finally to Blockbox and Tetris Online Japan. I've been a dedicated player since 2008, but as I took a short break from the game for finals.. I came to realization that even though we all like the same game - Tetris - it hasn't brought us together, but rather further apart. All of that has made me extremely exhausted.

There are those who believe Blockbox players are elitists -- I'd like to bring this to everyone's eyes that most users on Harddrop are elitists, otherwise why would you join this forum? To get better? To get tips? We're all here to e-brag about how good or "noob" we are. And from my perspective the ones who think Blockbox players are elitists are just envious of their skill  and strength as a community. Sure we're a small group of players - but I believe we're more close knitted than most other players.

As much as I have enjoyed playing this game, I think the community has taken away most of the fun aspect for me.

I used to discriminate against those who played on TF and TOJ because I didn't know how to t-spin or combo or block them.. and have tried to get people to stop saying that either are crappy games. However even the players who aren't good say TF is for noobs. Of course, only noobs say that. People who are too arrogant to admit they are not good players so they have to put down a whole coommunity to make themselves feel better.

Anyways with all things said in the end it comes to this - I've lost interest in Tetris altogether. Maybe one day that interest will spark up again (maybe it'll be in a few days) but I've been thinking long and hard about this and it seems like the best to take a well deserved break for the time being.

You two are birds of a feather - but two wrongs do not make a right. Don't worry, since we're not friends I don't give a flying shiit for either one of you.

Yeah. TetrisFriend is pretty much a unique game. Gotta agree that I've never really understood the comparisons between the various games and all the hate directed towards it.

There's always been a few people on harddrop that seem to dislike games that limit their 'potential'... but wouldn't it have been easier to just view it as different game conditions.

There's usually a benefit to misdrops caused by lags that people don't really think about it. It causes people to learn how to play with fixes and all that. I'm sure some people have also learnt new tricks because of misdrops in places that they'd normally not place pieces in.

You cannot make comparisons between Nullpomino and Tetris Friends

For one there are different rules and settings

Yes sure, you can set the rules to be like TF on Nullpomino but it will never be like TF.
Why can't a player simply be better than you at TF just because they're better? They aren't better due to lag, they're better because they simply are.

You're "reasons" are simply "excuses" to me - Oh my graphics card sucks.. oh there's lag.. oh this oh that. It doesn't sway me from my point of view that those are just excuses to make you feel better for being a crappy (excuse my choice in wording here) player.

Instead of looking at the flaws, enjoy the game for what it has. I would like to go into how I dislike people using custom das patches on TOJ and why I believe it's wrong, but I'd rather not.. it'll be long and tiresome to type out.

I'm not here to e-banter with you or anyone else - this blog is just stating my exhaustion of a huge part of the community. If you want to argue take it to someone that cares.

"It is causing people to lose/win with little skill being involved. Not only that but some people can hardly even play the game due to input drops and lag."

You can say that people can win/lose on TF with little skill being involved - but from what I see that's you not admitting that maybe there are players out there that are better than you. And maybe what's annoying to you is they might have been playing a shorter amount of time than you. Totally understandable - but I do not think the flaws of TF causes people with less skills to beat you.

I used to say, "Oh Tetris Friends is crap because it lags so much... I keep misdropping." But after my first lost in TTO I've come to realization it's not the lag that's messing me up but my lack of skills. I was not playing accordingly to adapt to what TF was. If my opponent can play without custom das and url das or whatever, I should be able to do that as well.

Like I said, every game has flaws. Sure there's lag and this and that and x amount of flaws - but even with the flaws there are good players on TF who are able to adapt to the game and still be good at it.

I think in the future Tetris Friends will become better.. changes just take awhile and they're taking small baby steps. You do have to take into mind... that Tetris is more of a casual game than competitive so they're aiming towards the less serious players.

If you can't agree to this - let's just agree to disagree. :)

@ paradox aka s2k

thanks for your comment - but from my point of view every game has to start somewhere. True Tetris Friends has flaws but every game out there does. You can either accept it for what it is or not - if you don't then don't play it - but you should not tell people that it's a game for noobs. I know I've said that in the past, but I'm in no position to say anything and neither do the rest of the HD community. Everyone has their own preferences - if they like TF then that's them.. and if they find something better good for them. That's the only thing that annoys me - that everyone thinks they're soo much better than everyone else they can say which games are "good" and which are "bad." But again - thanks for your comment :] I always love seeing what other people have to say about what I think.

@ Radiance - I love you too David Hermosa.
