I lost at Tetris Friends
Posted On 12/23/2010 00:41:05 by Blink

A few hours ago I played against hebo_MAI 1v1 in preparation for next round's match in the Tetris Tournament Online.  I got off to an early lead but it ended up 16-14 hebo_MAI over me.  This was the first time I've ever lost a full match to someone on Tetris Friends.

It felt like all of my round losses were because of a powerful spike in garbage.  I think this indicates I need to time my garbage cancelling better, and possibly stay lower at the expense of APM so that when the spike happens it isn't fatal.  It's been said that you learn more from losses than wins and I think so too.  Hopefully I can adapt my playstyle a bit before I ever have to play him again.

IRL - school quarter is over, work is boring/repetitive but it puts money in the bank and I have cool coworkers and bosses,  Looking forward to spending Christmas and New years with family/friends.

I'm rooting for Hebo, but I still think that you have an equal chance of winning.

Keep in mind that combos are always unreliable. They are either very powerful or end early without sending much. In either case you may be left with an awkward stack. I would only use it if you are on the loosing end and are looking for a miracle. Remember that consistency is one of the most important aspects of skill. Even a noob can take wins against an incredible, yet inconsistent player.

In the end I think downstacking + T-spins will win it. If you look at Hebo's recent TF
replays (and even in your match) his forecasting was pretty
unbeleivable. That was probably the extra push that he needed to beat
you in the practice match. Besides that factor, I think you are far better at making t-spins while downstacking. You are also a faster player which is important for players with almost equal skill.
