Happy Birthday Hard Drop!

Happy Birthday Hard Drop!  It's been 3 years!  I've shared some good times and fun matches with lots of members on this site, and would consider a handful to be good friends.  It's strange that we found eachother on a simple Tetris fan community website.  The people here are awesome and I'm sorry I didn't do more this year in terms of promoting/hosting events/admin stuff.

Now some ranting......

3 years since HD was started, and to be honest the Tetris scene is constantly going through ups and downs in terms of activity.  Right now it looks like we're in another slump with lack of interest and tournaments, and I don't blame the players at all.  There's only so many community hosted tournaments players can participate in before it starts becoming repetitive with nothing at stake or no larger dreams/goals after the tournament is over.  With all this variation in player interest, one thing has remained constant.  The lack of interest/effort in hosting an official tournament by the Tetris Company despite preaching about how they want Tetris to be a multiplayer sport.  Maybe they're too busy working on Tetris Battle, who knows?  If that were true though, then why does that game still look the same as it did 6 months ago when I played it?  I haven't really noticed any improvements yet.

I'm sure that long ago a lot of competitive Tetris fans have already given up on the idea that competitive Tetris will ever become big, and I've seen many players come and go since the start of HD.  Most of those players are gone for good, but I know a few are temporarily gone until something does happen in the Tetris scene.  From the looks of things though, it's safe to say they won't be back.

I've given up awhile ago already and have been really busy this year, which is why I've been playing very sparingly.  I've primarily only been playing Cultris II lately, cause their community has some fresh faces and some of them are really funny people.   I think now that the Spring tournament is over though, I'll take a stab at Tetris Battle.  There is a very large amount of users that I don't think have heard of Hard Drop yet, so I want to introduce them to the site and respark some interest or increase the amount of user-hosted tournaments on here.  Hopefully I run into some highly skilled players who can teach me a few tricks along the way.  Hmm, I wonder what game the Japanese community is playing right now.... I'll ask tomorrow.  Personally, I can use a jumpstart on my Tetris enthusiasm.  Don't get me wrong, I already know from experience that I will always love Tetris. One doesn't play Tetris for 10 years without loving it, but damn you have to admit the scene is SOO boring right now.

Here's to a stronger Tetris year!
