I have to admit I've been losing interest in Tetris. This is probably from a combination of things: real life, friends, school, looking for work (i have an internship in a month), StarCraft 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and the overall lack of any official tournaments from TTC for multiplayer. Also I think it's reached the point where I've been the person to beat for so long that people hate seeing me win now, I've turned into the bad guy. I don't like being the bad guy, but there's some things i still need to do.
Tetris To Do List:
1. Learn all spins (J/L/S/Z/I Twists). I recorded kotetsu playing on nullpo earlier today for an hour, he has some nice improvised setups that I'll study from:
. Meow was doing some nice spins too:
. Hebo-MAI is another person I can learn twists from, he was wrecking me on Tetris Party Deluxe about 2 months ago with them. He has been asking me to come back to TOJ and play with him, I think he might be getting bored of the competition on there.
2. Invisible. I put LockJaw DS on my R4 and plan on playing before I fall asleep, even if I play a little bit each day it should help my memory and invisible skills. The difficulty in LJ DS invisible is way harder than TF Survival, because there's no reveals ever.
3. Expert HD Mode. This is probably the first time ever when an official Tetris game is going to recognize a fan forum, and dedicate a mode for us. They don't have to do this, but by doing so are showing that they do care to a certain extent about what we want. I'm looking forward to helping push out a good mode that can possibly shape future official Tetris versions. Everybody complains about TTC and that their games are lower quality than they should be, so I hope people contribute and help them reach a level of quality where they should be.
That's about it for Tetris. I broke a few records this month, including hitting 26.59 seconds on Blockbox 40L. NullpoMino 7.3 is looking nice, the game is progressing along nicely but the userbase is pretty small right now. I think things will start turning around once it gets more exposure on HD, which I will try to help with because the nullpomino is definitely a community project and effort which I appreciate. TetriNET2 is alive and active again thanks to a global e-mail to all of its members by Equalizer, Tetris Friends is still as popular as ever and added some gambling type system which some people don't like but I enjoy it. it gives me a small glimpse of the competition that I am craving. I've been playing a lot of blockbox lately but I think I'm going to stop now since some of the admins always harrass me for not doing any adminwork, and because the replays stopped working. They also lost a bunch of records lately, I think they reverted back to an older database from like last month. Okay that's all for now, bye.
Making tetris more popular shoudl be one of yoru goals, so you can introduce new players taht will eventually pwn, and there will be tourneys from which you can make money from winning ;)
Being the guy to beat comes with mixed feelings from people. Having experience in the Smash community, I find there are two types of "best" players: the kind who recognize that they are amazing, and try to promote/evolve the game, and the kind that abuse thier skill, and stop taking people seriously. Should you stop playing Tetris, I think that you'll be missed and recognized as the former of those two types.
That said, seconding Red Star's comment, Tetris isn't going anywhere. If it's a choice between life and Tetris, that's an easy one!
Interest for anything will come and go. Tetris really needs something to revitalize it. It would also help if TTC had put forth some sort of comeptitions for multiplayer. One day Tetris might get something like SF4 was to the fighting game genre. Something to really bring it back. Tetris will always be around though. And you can always come back to it. Sorry to hear of your losing interest though. You have always been a great tetris player. You got to take care of real life though. Tetris isn't going anywhere so you'll always have time to come back to it. Best of luck to you, Blink, with the internship and such.
