Tetris is a puzzle video game originally designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov in the Soviet Union. It was released on June 6, 1984. He derived its name from the Greek numerical prefix tetra- and tennis, Pajitnov's favorite sport.

The game is available for nearly every video game console and computer operating system, as well as on devices such as graphing calculators, mobile phones, portable media players, and PDAs.

While versions of Tetris were sold for a range of 1980s home computer platforms, it was the hugely successful handheld version for the Game Boy launched in 1989 that established the game as one of the most popular ever. Electronic Gaming Monthly's 100th issue had Tetris in first place as "Greatest Game of All Time". The Tetris World Championships is held every two years, and sponsored by the creator of Tetris.

For the most nostalgic, you can listen here the mythic song of Tetris!

Version into the Electronic Sports League: Tetris Friends

Tetris Friends is an online Tetris game developed by Tetris Online, Inc. It is available on its website and on Facebook. Registered users are able to compare their scores with their friends and with the entire community. It is the only official Flash implementation of Tetris made by the Tetris company itself.

Arena is the only live multiplayer mode. When special flashing blocks are cleared, the player is awarded with a randomly selected item that harms the opponent in some way. Items can cause more garbage, speed up the game for the opponent, or even make the blocks invisible, amongst other things."
