The Guiness Book of World Records (Gamer Edition) 2010 was just released today, and Bejeweled took "Most Popular Puzzle Game of the Century" over Tetris. I think this proves that Guinness doesn't know what they're talking about.

"The Guinness World Records 2010 Gamer's Edition will be officially released tomorrow. For those wanting to sneak a peek at some of the records Guinness had to offer this year, Game Informer got an advanced copy of the book, and gave us some new facts.

Surprisingly, Mario is not the most recognizable video game character this year. Sorry Nintendo, but Americans recognized Namco's Pac-Man more than the plumber...by a mere 1 percent.
Between November 2004 and October 2009, RuneScape player Sara Lhadi logged in a whopping 16,799 hours, which rounds to about 2 years total, and 9 hours and 20 minutes of gameplay per day.
Halo was voted number 1 video game series in an online poll in which 13,079 readers participated in.
Some other facts:

Biggest Selling Video Game of All Time: Wii Sports, with over 46 million sold.

Highest Grossing Video Arcade of All Time: NBA Jam, making $1 billion in its first year.

Largest Collection of Pokemon Memorabilia: 12,113, held by UK resident Lisa Courtney.

Most Popular Puzzle Game of the Century: Bejeweled. I'm surprised it wasn't Tetris."

On another note, Tetris did manage to pull down 3 world records. These records include, "Most Ported Video Game", "Game With the Most Official and Unofficial Variants", and "Longest Prison Sentence for Playing a Video Game", which is held by Faiz Chopdat, who was jailed for four months for playing Tetris on his cell phone while on a flight to Manchester, England. He refused to stop playing after being repeatedly warned by the cabin staff.

To tell the truth: I really whish I'd live in a universe where The Tetris Company would have invented all these brilliant PopCap Games... Anyway, congrats Bejeweled! But Tetris is still the real #1! :)

Good discussion here. Bejeweled = Mouse + less thinking Tetris = mostly keyboard.. + more thinking If I were to compare the two... Feel free to disagree.

What the shit. I know kids nowadays don't even know what the heck is Tetris but of all things bejeweled? What kind of readership does Guinness get?

I like Bejeweled.... the puzzle modes to it (in which you have to clear the board via certain conditions) especially Twists "Keep # of green gems on the board" a 64 gem board is forced to keep 2/3 of them one color... yay :( I'm sick of it and only play when my family sets a new score to beat.
